Friday, October 4th

1. We started a new unit in Math by exploring links to picture books.  

2. We talked about Mental Health today and came up with this as a class definition of Mental Health.
“Mental Health is about feelings, our thinking, our emotions and our moods- things you can’t really see, but that affect our lives in lots of ways.”

Thursday, October 3

1. We started a a new math unit.  Number Sense.
2. We will start a new read aloud novel tomorrow.  Are there any guesses about what it will be?


Wednesday, October 2nd 

1. We will be making wheels and axles on Monday.  Please bring in recycled materials that could be used as wheels (yogurt container lids, milk jug lids, old CD's etc.) and anything that could be used as axles (straws, chop sticks, skewers, etc.)! Masking tape!!! 


Tuesday,  October 1st 

1. Complete this homework to help you study for the Time Quiz tomorrow!  Due tomorrow.  


Monday, September 30th 

1. New spelling words home today.
2. We learned about Orange Shirt Day.  Please ask me about the books we read.

Week of September 30th - October 4th 

We will be learning about:

Language Arts: we will finish up "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing," we will work on writing our paragraphs about the best part of us, we will get new spelling words on Monday and bring them home on Monday, we will practice our just right reading stamina

Math: Quiz on Time on Wednesday (reading analog clocks, recording time on analog clocks, converting time to and from 24 hour time, solve word problems on elapsed time)

Social: we will learn the names of the 6 regions of Alberta and locate them all on the map of Alberta, we will talk about Orange Shirt day and it's significance in Alberta's history 

Science: we will learn more about the Wheel and Axle 

Health: we have learned our three best learning styles, we will continue to talk about who we are as learners and tie this to our identity, we will talk more in depth about the pillars of care and have a class meeting at some point this week

French: we will learn the days of the week in French and learn how to spell them.  We will also make an October calendar in French

Friday, September 27th 

1. We had a chilly but successful Terry Fox Run today.  Our class ran 84 laps!!

2.  Keep working on changing time into 24 hours, we will have a quiz on Wednesday.  

3. We met with our Grade 1 buddies today.  

4.  DRESS for the weather on Monday!!

1. Terry Fox run and muffin breakfast tomorrow.  Wear outdoor running shoes!  Check the weather and dress for an outside run!! 

2. We will be learning the days of the week in French.  

3.  We learned what character traits Terry has.

September 23, 2019

1. Spelling words sent home on orange paper.  Students are divided into 4 spelling groups this year, so each student will bring home their own word list to practice for the week.   We will not be having a spelling quiz each week, however, we will focus to learn the spelling pattern and words of the week.

2.  We worked with the Librettist for the Opera today.

Week of September 23- 27th 

We will be learning:
Math: Continuing telling time with a 24 hour clock specifically changing 24 hour time into 12 hour time.
Language Arts: We will finish our "The Best Part of Me" writing and photos, writing responses about our read aloud Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, new group of spelling words for the week, practicing our stamina of independent reading and students going to the Learning Commons to get new books.  
Science: We will learn more about the six simple machines and find examples of each simple machine in our every day life.
Social:  What does it mean to be an Albertan?  We will identify the 6 regions in Alberta.

1. Meet the teacher Thursday evening.  Ms Vroom will share a presentation with parents at 6:30 and again at 7pm.  Please come and meet her!!!!
2. We learned about time on the hour and on the half hour.  
3. We talked about Alberta and drew some Alberta symbols. 
4. We now all have personal dictionaries.

Math - we will begin the year with learning about telling Time on the 24 hour clock
Social - we will locate Alberta on the map of Canada and talk about our identity as an Albertan
Science - we will introduce Simple Machines
Language Arts - we will continue to practice our Read to Self stamina and finding 'just right' books, we will continue to read our class read aloud "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing" and make connections to our world, we will start some paragraph writing and work on some of our basic grammar rules, we will start some personal narrative writing about ourselves connecting to our theme of "Identity."
French - we will introduce the French language and learn Bonjour and the French alphabet

- getting to know our new classroom, new classmates and Ms Vroom
- Pillars of Care - How do we care for Ourselves, Others and This Place?
- we met our Grade 1 buddies
- we had a welcome back assembly
- we enjoyed meeting Mr J in the Gym and Ms Smith in Music
- we had an introduction to the Learning Commons from Mrs Wong
- we started reading "Tales of A Fourth Grade Nothing" as a class and making predictions and connections to self.
