Wednesday, October 30

- we did some amazing pumpkin art with Ms Wishart when Ms Vroom was at Camp. 


Tuesday, October 29

- we learned about gears today
- Halloween is on Thursday!  Students can wear costumes, but please do not bring any treats.  

Monday, October 28

- please bring Field Trip forms back.
- we learned rounding to the nearest thousand.  Please practice at home.

Week of October 28- November 1

We will be working on:
Language Arts:
- continuing our unit on Personal Narrative, learning about hooks and good beginnings to stories 
- continue our read aloud of Frindle
Mathematics:
- Math Mystery.  We are solving a superhero mystery using rounding, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
French:
- Halloween vocabulary, colours and numbers 
Social Studies:
- continue researching Alberta's regions - Canadian Shield 
Science:
- Gears and Drive Systems

- we went on a walk to sketch the Rocky Mountains 
- tomorrow we will have an assembly at 9:30.  
- Halloween Dance tomorrow at 6:30pm 


Wednesday, October 23

- we finished our Rocky Mountain research with computers
- we all came up with a special word for an object just like in "Frindle"
- Field Trip forms home yesterday, please sign and bring back ASAP.  

Monday, October 21

- we started research on the Rocky Mountain region 
- we learned some place value 
- we learned some French Halloween vocabulary
- we will be going on a community walk on Thursday Afternoon

Tuesday, October 8

1. Our Heritage Park Field Trip is on November 4th!  We will need 4 parent volunteers in order to go on the trip.  Please email Ms Vroom if you can come. mdvroom@cbe.ab.ca

- We will start our unit on number sense - place value and representing numbers with base ten blocks

- we are making wheels and axles and will start learning about drive systems 
Social 
- we will learn more about the 6 regions of Alberta, we will start research on the Grasslands region 
Health 
- we will continue to learn about Mental Health 
French 
- Days of the week and months of the year

ALL BOOK FAIR - USED BOOK DONATIONS NEEDED!
Hawkwood School will be having their semi-annual book fair November 19-22nd. Once again we accepting donations of children’s and adult’s books for our Fall Book Fair. Please consider donating popular titles for children such as:
Diary of a wimpy kid
Bad guys series
Dog man
Mighty robot
Amulet
Elephant & piggie books
Branches series including Dragon Masters
Any books by Raina Telgemeier (graphic novels)

Please do not bring textbooks, encyclopedias, magazines or any items that are too outdated. Used books can be dropped off in the foyer across from the office.
